The Bulls continued their quest for post-season action with a 5 touchdown first half display, which took the match out of the Rams hands. Yorkshire stepped up their game in the second half but it was too little and too late.

The game was only a few minutes old when the Bulls drew first blood on a five yard run by Ed Winter, Nick Burt split the sticks to add the point for a seven to nothing lead. Yorkshire moved the ball well later in the quarter with a couple of good catches from Rik Lowthion to Paul Calvert and Lee Taylor, and runs by Justin Lester and Andy Hill got the visitors deep into home territory. With the Rams pressing their attack a low ball from Lowthion was picked off by Brendan Cunnane to start a drive for Birmingham. Powerful running by Jay Alexander put pressure on Yorkshire which was capped by a 38 yard scoring pass from Winter to Dave Winter with the kick by Burt again successful to put Birmingham up 14 - 0.

The second quarter started much like the first with a quick score by the home side. Not content with the extra points Burt was on the end of a 19 yard pass from Winter to add the six and he also put another kick over the bar to make it 21-0. Midway through the period David Morgan intercepted a pass from Lowthion and battled his way to the visitor’s 12 yard marker from where Alexander ploughed through for the TD, Burt again adding the one for the scoreboard to read 28-0. As the end of the half approached the Rams were moving up field with some good plays of their own but luck was against them as a fumble was recovered by Morgan to give the advantage once more to Birmingham. Another long run by Alexander put the Bulls back into scoring position and they used it well with a 23 yard pass from Winter to Ejike Tross, the kick by Burt was good and Birmingham went in at the break 35 - 0 up.

Yorkshire were stung on the first play after the kick off when Stuart Ennis connected with Burt, who was awarded the Ram’s MVP for a superb game, for a 50 yard score. He again added the extra point for a 42-0 lead. Yorkshire started to up their game and take the attack to Birmingham and were finally successful in putting some points of their own on the board. A couple of runs through the middle by Hill and a Bulls penalty moved the ball away from the Ram’s endzone where Lester took the hand off and after weaving his way through the lines raced 77 yards for the score, but even this enjoyment was short lived as the blocked kick was picked up by Birmingham’s Paul Summers and run back for two points to make the score 44-6.

Even though the Ram’s defence, with Paul Goodward receiving the MVP for an inspiring game, were digging in they could not stop Alexander stretching out for a score from two yards as he was brought down. Burt’s kick was again spot on to increase the score to 51-6. Up until the two-minute warning neither team could make any headway but again football luck was against the Yorkshire side as Ed Winter reached out to intercept Lowthion and went 45 yards for a 57-6 lead. The ball was fumbled on the kick and recovered by Ram’s James Marsden to stop Burt’s run of extra points. Just before the final whistle Yorkshire struck for their second touchdown when Lowthion hit JJ Forder for a 58 yard score and the two pointer from Lowthion to Paul Calvert successful the game finished 57-14.

Yorkshire’s final two games are at home and are hoping that they finish their season on a high note. The first game is 11th July against the East Kilbride Pirates at Ram Stadium, Dewsbury kick off 2:30pm and the final game is against their old foes the Nottingham Caesars on 1st August at the same venue.
