Rams to play home games in stadium

Ladies and gentlemen, your Rams are on the move.

We’re not heading to Los Angeles - although we’re still pretty excited after a deal was agreed for the Yorkshire Rams to play home games in the 2016 season at South Leeds Stadium.

The venue, also known as the John Charles Centre for Sport in honour of the former Leeds United, Juventus and Wales striker, was previously the Rams’ home for the 2009 season with the club enjoying a successful record there.

The stadium has hosted games in rugby league’s Kingstone Press League 1 (formerly Championship 1) for the last two seasons as home to the Hunslet Hawks side. It has also played host to Leeds United reserve fixtures in the past.

Rams General Manager Adam Cowley said: “It’s an absolute pleasure that we can announce that the Yorkshire Rams are heading back to play our home games at South Leeds Stadium.”

“It’s taken a huge effort from the club committee to achieve it and it’s personally very rewarding to pay back the players and supporters after all their support over the last year.”

Head Coach David Pawson added: “I fully appreciate all the hard work being done by the committee behind the scenes that has enabled the club to play at South Leeds Stadium.

“This is the next stage of a number of changes that have taken place over the off season and it is fitting way for the club to give something back to the players, who are the backbone of the club.”

The Rams’ Senior team, seeking to bounce back from last season’s relegation and return to the NFC Premier at the first time of asking, welcomed the switch.”

“The news about South Leeds Stadium is first-class,” said lineman Alan Stockdale. “Well done to everyone involved in making that happen.”

The Rams will continue to train at Leeds Corinthians RUFC, their home ground for the last 6 years.
