Yorkshire Rams 0 - 50 Lancashire Wolverines

The Rams faced a second tough game in a fortnight as they faced the Lancashire Wolverines at home and it proved to be just that as the Wolverines took the lead on their opening drive and for the second time in as many games, the Rams found themselves behind in the early moments. A deep pass from Lancashire’s QB David Mead found a receiver to perfection but he was stopped at the 1 yard line, Mead himself completed the job on the next play when he found a gaping hole in the Rams defence and wandered untouched into the endzone and the Wolverines had an early 7-0 lead.

The teams traded the ball for a few possessions until a bad Rams snap hit Quarterback, Chris Wood on the shoulder and was picked up by a Lancashire defender who managed to run the ball into the endzone to extend the lead to 14. The Rams couldn’t find any success on the ground and a host of penalties in the second quarter led to two ejections, one per team and the game seemed to be heading to half time with the same scoreline.

With only seconds on the clock, the Rams were punting from deep in their own half but Lancashire, as they had against East Kilbride, managed to block the punt and fall on it for another TD. The Rams had lots of work to do, 21-0 at the half.

As the second half began, Yorkshire were still struggling to move the ball on the ground and pinned back against their own goal line, the trailing side attempted a screen pass which was a little too high and the Wolverines once again pounced on a Rams mistake to extend the lead with another touchdown.

The score would soon be extended when another snap went awry for the home side and the Wolverines were in great field position once again, Mead again taking advantage and running the ball in. He would follow that up with a passing TD and the score stood at 41-0.

The Rams defence, who were having a fairly good day regardless of the scoreline, forced the Wolverines 3 and out but a fantastic punt went out of bounds at the Rams 1 yard line and they were yet again starting deep in their own half. The Rams couldn’t get out of the endzone and another two points were added to the Lancashire score with a safety.

Even with the running clock, there was still time for the Rams to be backed up deep again and this time the ball was fumbled and then recovered by the Wolverines in the endzone for another TD.

The Rams will look to bounce back against the Coventry Jets on the 24th May, a team who have also struggled at the beginning of this season.
