In the Spotlight: Yorkshire Rams Youth and Junior
Sun Dec 07 2014
The Yorkshire Rams has teams at a variety of levels, the following is a brief overview of the Youth and Junior team from Head Coach of both teams, Justin Lester.
Youth overview:
The Youth team (14-16 years) was formed in late 2013 and in 2014 were successful in reaching the UK national finals, technically finishing the season as the 5th highest ranked team in the country. This was a huge achievement for the club and has set the standard for future generations to come, with the target being a repeat of the 2014 success.
Youth football is played in a 5 v 5 format and on a smaller pitch but with very much the same techniques being deployed as in the 11 v 11 game. Youth football is typically a higher scoring game albeit a shorter one, a typical game being 30 minutes long.
Junior overview:
The Junior team (16-18 years) had it’s first season in 2014 and are looking to build on the experiences gained in an effort to reach the 2015 playoffs.
With no clarity on the format to be played, the 2015 season could be played under 8 v 8, 9 v 9 or 11 v 11 rules on a much larger pitch than the youth game. Naturally the 11 v 11 game would be played on a full size adult pitch and follow the same rules as the senior game and ultimately the US College game.
With a Great Britain junior setup in existence, it is very much the desire of the coaches to elevate players to the required level to take part in that team, the achievement of which would be seen as a huge success.
Anyone wishing to join either team should contact Coach Justin at [email protected] - training is typically on Sundays at 1pm and will return in the new year.
