Andrew Cheeseman appointed new Senior Head Coach

The Yorkshire Rams are delighted to announce that they have agreed terms with former Rams Wide Receiver Andrew Cheeseman to become the new Head Coach of the Senior team.

Cheeseman, 25, called time on a short but eventful career after suffering a hip injury in the 2014 “War of the Roses” at the Lancashire Wolverines. He then returned to the fold later in the year when he stepped in as Offensive Coordinator for the last two games of the 2014 season, overseeing an offense blighted by injuries but would still defeat the Nottingham Caesars and score 13 points against a Tamworth Phoenix team, that would only concede more against table-topping East Kilbride Pirates (14pts).

Starting his career at Sheffield Hallam University in 2007, he would be part of a team that went to the playoffs three times in three years and were finalists in 2007. Cheeseman started his career as versatile as he would end it, playing Wide Receiver, Tight End, Kicker and Punter. He joined the Rams towards the end of his stay with the SHU Warriors in 2009 and in his second Rams year he linked up well with fellow Warrior QB, Andy Green.

Although this will be his first Head Coach assignment, he has played under previous Rams HC Orlando Weekes, current Leeds Becketts HC Paul Wake plus current SHU Warriors and Sheffield Predators HC Richard Batty. He has also had a stint as Running Backs coach at the University of Huddersfield under former Ram and current Hawks HC Greg Boyland plus spending the last couple of years at Leeds Becketts as WR coach and sharing OC duties with another former Ram, ex-Chairman Mike Cluskey. Cheeseman called the plays that got the team to the quarter finals last year.

Coach Cheeseman had the following to say on his appointment: “The expectation this and every year will be playoff football. The playoffs are where we will pitch our planning and will be where our season begins. I will expect commitment from the players, this must be shown by attending training and learning the playbook. If this commitment is not met then players must recognise that sanctions will be imposed”
