The Rams travelled to Boston on Sunday to take on the improving Saxons with the hope of extending their unbeaten run.

Yorkshire very nearly scored on their opening drive but Simon Dewdney’s pass to Paul Calvert was well intercepted in the endzone for the Saxons to take possession. Good defensive work by the Rams forced the home side to punt which went deep into the Rams’ half. Good runs by Jay Alexander and Justin Lester moved the ball upfield to help set up the visitor’s first score. A pass from Dewdney to Lee Morton and a good run by Paul Goodward got the ball on the Saxon’s three yard line where Alexander went in for the six, Dewdney adding the two. The Saxons tried to get yardage but Yorkshire’s defence allowed nothing past, Adrian Hirst gaining the MVP award for an outstanding game, and the quarter finished Ram’s Hytham Hamad running deep into Saxon’s territory before being brought down at the 19 yard line.

The second quarter opened with the visitors pressuring the home team and on their second play Lester broke through the line going 12 yards for the score. After that, both defences went to work with neither side gaining much of an advantage until four minutes left in the half. A 10 yard pass from Dewdney to Rik Lowthion, waiting alone in the endzone, added six to make the score 20-0. Inside the two minute warning Yorkshire increased their lead when Dewdney found Tonie Browne with a pass up the middle, Browne took the ball well and raced 68 yards for the score. Dewdney’s pass to Lowthion added the extra two and the Rams went in at the half 28-0 up.

Lester grabbed his second TD at the start of the second half with a superb 58 yard run down the right side, Goodward going in for the two points. More defensive work by both teams ensured no more scoring until late in the quarter when the Rams put the game out of the Saxons reach. Just over three minutes left in the period and Hamad evaded tackles to go 20 yards for his touchdown, Dewdney again adding the two. Linebacker Andy Hill scored a minute later when the Saxons fumbled at their own 28 yard line, Hill picked up the loose ball and ran down the left sideline to add the points. In the dying seconds Stuart Jones picked off a wayward pass for him to return 42 yards for a score of his own, Lester barged through for the extra points and was deservedly awarded the offensive MVP finishing with 201 yards rushing on the day. The never-say-die Saxons tried in vain to get points on the board but the Rams would not let anything through, holding the home team to just two first downs in the game. Yorkshire finished their tally of touchdowns midway through the quarter when Lowthion pitched to Dewdney who lofted the ball to Calvert standing at the back of the endzone. To end the scoring with the Rams in front 64-0. A superb all round performance lifted the team to five wins from five games at the half way point of the season.
