The Rams travelled North of the border lacking some key players to take on a spirited Tigers team.

On the Tigers opening kick off Tonie Browne returned the ball 36 yards and looked to be going for an immediate score but the home side swarmed to bring him down. Defences on both sides then dug in and neither side could make any significant yardage until mid quarter when Rams’ Justin Lester broke free on the right to race 71 yards for the score. The two pointer was also run in by Lester to put the visitors up 8-0. With a few minutes to go in the quarter Glasgow started to put pressure on the Rams’ defence when a good run by them got the ball to Yorkshire’s 3 yard line, but they hurt themselves when a penalty put them back five yards. The Rams held firm and on fourth down Lloyd Olpherts sacked Tigers Mat McCusker, who was awarded the MVP for the Tigers, to get the ball back for Yorkshire. As the quarter closed Jay Alexander forced his way for 13 yards to get his team out of danger.

On the first play of the second period Rams’ Simon Dewdney was intercepted by Tam Cunningham to give Glasgow another chance from the their own thirty yard line. A good drive was finally stopped and the Tigers had to punt which resulted in a touch-back. Dewdney led his team upfield and very nearly added points to the board but his pass to Rik Lowthion in the endzone was batted away by Cunningham. A Tigers’ penalty put Yorkshire on the two yard line but superb defence held the visitors and the ball was turned over to the home team on downs. As the first half drew to a close Glasgow once more started a drive of their own but Steve Goulden took the sting out of the attack with an interception.

Glasgow showed that they meant business when they scored on the second play of the half. A pass from McCusker to Gareth Alexander who was open on the left, led to a 44 yard touchdown but the two pointer was unsuccessful leaving the score 8-6. The rest of the third quarter was both defences showing how tough they were, the Rams’ Ben Walsh gaining the MVP for his consistent hard work.

The start of the final period put the Rams’ hearts in their mouth when a fumble gave the Tigers the ball and after three plays the home team attempted a field goal, but the ball went wide left giving possession back to the Rams. Again, both defences dug their heels in and the action stayed around midfield. Yorkshire put themselves relatively safe just after the two minute warning when offensive MVP, Jay Alexander, broke through tackles and barged his way into the endzone for the six. He also pushed his way through for the two points making the score 16-6. Glasgow did their utmost to get another score of their own in the dying seconds but solid work by the Rams’ ‘D’ stopped all their attempts and the game ended with a second notch of the season for Yorkshire.
